POETRY || “You Have Opposed The Words Of
The Shuyūkh”
ﻗﺎﻟﻮﺍ ﻟﻪ ﺧﺎﻟﻔﺖ ﺃﻗﻮﺍﻝ ﺍﻟﺸﻴﻮﺥ ﻭﻟﻢ ﻳﺒﺎﻟﻮﺍ ﺍﻟﺨﻠﻒ
ﻟﻠﻔﺮﻗﺎﻥ
They said to him “You have opposed the
words of the Shuyūkh” and (yet) they have
given no concern to the opposition of al-
Furqān (Qur’ān)
ﺧﺎﻟﻔﺖ ﺃﻗﻮﺍﻝ ﺍﻟﺸﻴﻮﺥ ﻓﺄﻧﺘﻢ ﺧﺎﻟﻔﺘﻢ ﻣﻦ ﺟﺎﺀ ﺑﺎﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ
I have opposed the statements of the
Shuyūkh but you have opposed the one
who came with the Qur’ān
ﺧﺎﻟﻔﺘﻢ ﻗﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﺮﺳﻮﻝ ﷺ ﻭﺇﻧﻤﺎ ﺧﺎﻟﻔﺖ ﻣﻦ ﺟﺮﺍﻩ ﻗﻮﻝ
ﻓﻼﻥ
You have opposed the words of the
Messenger ﷺ but indeed I have opposed
people who are influenced and impressed
by the statements of so and so
ﻳﺎ ﺣﺒﺬﺍ ﺫﺍﻙ ﺍﻟﺨﻼﻑ ﻓﺈﻧﻪ ﻋﻴﻦ ﺍﻟﻮﻓﺎﻕ ﻟﻄﺎﻋﺔ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ
Oh what a beautiful difference indeed it is
(between me and you), that it is an actual
sign that I have been granted success in
obeying al-Rahmān
ﺃﻭ ﻣﺎ ﻋﻠﻤﺖ ﺑﺄﻥ ﺃﻋﺪﺍﺀ ﺍﻟﺮﺳﻮﻝ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻋﺎﺑﻮﺍ ﺍﻟﺨﻠﻒ
ﺑﺎﻟﺒﻬﺘﺎﻥ
Or do you not know that the enemies of the
Messenger ﷺ reproached him for opposed
(them) and they did that with slander?
ﻟﺸﻴﻮﺧﻬﻢ ﻭﻟﻤﺎ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻗﺪ ﻣﻀﻰ ﺃﺳﻼﻓﻬﻢ ﻓﻲ ﺳﺎﻟﻒ
ﺍﻷﺯﻣﺎﻥ
Opposing their Shuyūkh and what they had
been upon, their Salaf (the ones who came
before them) in the previous times
ﻣﺎ ﺍﻟﻌﻴﺐ ﺇﻻ ﻓﻲ ﺧﻼﻑ ﺍﻟﻨﺺ ﻻ ﺭﺃﻱ ﺍﻟﺮﺟﺎﻝ ﻭﻓﻜﺮﺓ
ﺍﻷﺫﻫﺎﻥ
There is no blame for anyone except when
they opposed the (divine) text, not when
they opposed the opinions of men or
thoughts that come to the minds of men
ﺃﻧﺘﻢ ﺗﻌﻴﺒﻮﻧﺎ ﺑﻬﺬﺍ ﻭﻫﻮ ﻣﻦ ﺗﻮﻓﻴﻘﻨﺎ ﻭﺍﻟﻔﻀﻞ ﻟﻠﻤﻨﺎﻥ
You are blaming us for that and it is that
Allah has granted us success and from the
virtue of al-Mannān (the One Who Gives)
ﻓﻠﻴﻬﻨﻜﻢ ﺧﻠﻒ ﺍﻟﻨﺼﻮﺹ ﻭﻳﻬﻨﻨﺎ ﺧﻠﻒ ﺍﻟﺸﻴﻮﺥ ﺃﻳﺴﺘﻮﻱ
ﺍﻟﺨﻠﻔﺎﻥ
Then let you be congratulated for your
differing to the (divine) texts (brought by
the Messenger ﷺ of Allah) and let us
congratulate ourselves in our opposition
towards the Shuyūkh. Are the two kinds of
opposition equal?
ﻭﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻣﺎ ﺗﺴﻮﻯ ﻋﻘﻮﻝ ﺟﻤﻴﻊ ﺃﻫﻞ ﺍﻷﺭﺽ ﻧﺼﺎ ﺻﺢ ﺫﺍ
ﺗﺒﻴﺎﻥ
By Allah if all of the intellects from the
people of the Earth gathered together to
form an opinion it would not equal one
(divine) text that has come with clear proof
in it
ﺣﺘﻰ ﻧﻘﺪﻣﻬﺎ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻣﻌﺮﺿﻴﻦ ﻣﺆﻭﻟﻴﻦ ﻣﺤﺮّﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ
Until we would put that statement forth in
front of (divine) texts and turn away from
the meaning of the text of the Qur’ān
ﻭﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺇﻥ ﺍﻟﻨﺺ ﻓﻴﻤﺎ ﺑﻴﻨﻨﺎ ﻷﺟﻞ ﻣﻦ ﺁﺭﺍﺀ ﻛﻞ ﻓﻼﻥ
By Allah indeed the (divine) text that exists
between me and you is more honourable
than the opinions of every so and so
~ by al-Imām Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have
mercy on him)
